Scaffolding at a Wellington building site has collapsed in the strong winds hitting the capital today.
No one was injured in the collapse on Willis St, which happened just before 5pm.
But the fire service is concerned the scaffolding could be live because part of it is touching the trolley bus wires.
Willis St has been closed to traffic, but pedestrians are still being let through.
The collapse became the
focus of many pedestrians who stopped to take photos and videos, despite
being moved on by emergency services.
Wellington
Central Fire Station senior officer Brett Lockyer says work needs to be
done to isolate the cable so the scaffolding can be dismantled safely.
The scaffolding is "very unstable" and persistent strong winds could bring it down even further, he says.
Mr Lockyer hopes work can start taking down the scaffolding soon.
