Six people appeared in the Blenheim District Court yesterday after an attack in Kaikoura on Monday that left three people injured.
Kaikoura men Carlos Mikaere Pereri Brown, Daniel Leslie Hema, Danny Leonard Clark and Australian Sonny David Aitken were remanded in custody to apply for bail in the Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
Lily Maxwell and Manaia Papeta Piteroi Manawatu, both of Kaikoura, were remanded on bail to appear in the Kaikoura District Court on January 21.
A Kaikoura man suffered a broken jaw and shoulder after he and members of his family and friends, some of who were visiting from Kaiapoi, were attacked on Beach Rd, outside the Top 10 Holiday Park, early on Monday. Two other people in the group also suffered injuries, including cuts and concussion, the police said.
The police said the victims were walking home from central Kaikoura when they were kicked and punched.
Clark, 23, was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and unlawful assembly.
Hema, 28, unemployed, was charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful assembly.
Brown, 26, a labourer, was charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, entering Dusky Lodge with intent to commit a crime and unlawful assembly.
Aitken, 29, a labourer of Freemantle, Australia, was charged with two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault with intent to injure and unlawful assembly.
Hema, 28, unemployed, was charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful assembly.
Maxwell, 23, a shop assistant, was charged with robbing a woman of a digital camera and unlawful assembly, and Manawatu, 19, was charged with entering Dusky Lodge with intent to commit a crime and unlawful assembly.
